Le Recul Bot — external servers

Invite Le Recul Bot to your Discord server to automatically receive new lerecul.com content as previews.

Before you start: the bot speaks French

Le Recul Bot's slash commands and its replies are in French, because the site and its community are French-speaking. The commands below are written exactly as you must type them — do not translate them. What each one does is explained in English.

Invite the bot

Invite Le Recul Bot →

Clicking the invite link takes you to Discord to choose the server to install the bot on. Only members with the Manage Server permission can invite a bot.

Recommended permissions

Le Recul Bot does not need the Administrator permission to work on an external server.

The permissions it asks for are:

  • View channels — reach the configured publishing channel.
  • Send messages — post previews.
  • Embed links — display rich embeds (image, title, summary).
  • Attach files — post a visual or associated image.
  • Read message history — avoid posting the same content twice.
  • Use application commands — reach the slash commands used for setup.

The bot does not ask for: Administrator, Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Manage Messages, Manage Webhooks, or any moderation permission.

Initial setup

After inviting the bot, set the publishing channel with this slash command:

/config-salon salon:#your-channel

Replace #your-channel with the Discord channel you want the bot to post previews to. If you do not name a channel, the bot uses the current one. (salon is French for “channel” — it is the parameter name, so type it as shown.)

Test the setup:

/test-publication

That posts a preview of the latest available content to the configured channel.

What the bot posts on an external server

On a partner or external server, Le Recul Bot posts previews of new content only:

  • The content's image (when available).
  • Title.
  • Short summary.
  • A link to the full article on lerecul.com.
  • A “read the full article” or “read the full test” button, depending on the type.
  • A “Le Recul Discord” button — it points to the official discussion thread for that post when there is one, otherwise to the official server.
  • A “subscribe to the newsletter” button.

The bot never posts the full article on an external server. For the full text, readers are sent to lerecul.com.

What the bot does not do on an external server

  • It does not read members' messages.
  • It does not collect personal data about your server's members.
  • It does not post to a channel that has not been configured.
  • It does not create channels, roles, categories or threads on your server.
  • It does not delete existing messages (other than its own, on an explicit request).
  • It does not moderate your server.
  • It does not open local discussions on your server: threads tied to content are centralised on the official Le Recul server. The “Le Recul Discord” button points straight to that thread, or to the official server.

Commands available on an external server

Type the commands exactly as written — they are registered in French.

Command What it does
/statusBot status and configured channel.
/aideList of available commands (“aide” = help).
/newsletterSubscribe to, or link an existing subscription to, the Le Recul newsletter.
/contactSend a message to the Le Recul team.
/temoignerOpen the site's testimonials page (“témoigner” = share your experience).
/config-salon(Admin) Set the channel previews are posted to.
/test-publication(Admin) Test posting a preview.

Advanced management commands (channel-map, bot-post, server-config) are reserved for the official Le Recul server.

Changing the configured channel

To change the publishing channel at any time:

/config-salon salon:#new-channel

The change takes effect immediately. The next posts go to the new channel.

Removing the bot

To remove Le Recul Bot from your server, go to Server Settings → Integrations → Bots and Apps, find Le Recul Bot and click Remove access (or “Kick”).

The bot stops posting to your server immediately. Messages already posted stay in your channel (Discord does not delete existing messages).

The configuration attached to your server is deleted automatically from our databases after 90 days of inactivity.

Data and privacy

When you invite Le Recul Bot, it records only:

  • Your Discord server's identifier (guild ID).
  • The identifier of the configured publishing channel.
  • The identifiers of posted messages (to avoid duplicates).

This data is required for the bot to work and is not shared with third parties.

Any questions: the bot's privacy policy.
