Le Recul Bot

Privacy policy

Le Recul Bot privacy policy: what data is processed, why, how long it is kept and your rights.

This policy explains what data may be processed when Le Recul Bot is used — the official Discord bot attached to the lerecul.com website.

Le Recul Bot is designed to work with minimal data collection.

1. Data controller

The data controller is the publisher of Le Recul.

In line with the site's legal notice, the publisher's identifying details have been provided to the website's host.

For any request about data processed by Le Recul Bot, please use the contact page.

You can also write to: webmaster@lerecul.com

2. Data that may be processed

Le Recul Bot may process only the data needed for it to work.

Depending on the configuration, that data may include:

  • the Discord server identifier;
  • the Discord server name, where needed for technical administration;
  • the identifier of the channel configured for publishing;
  • the server's publishing preferences;
  • the Discord identifier of the administrator who configured the bot, where needed to track the configuration;
  • role identifiers, only if an advanced permissions feature is used;
  • the identifiers of content already published;
  • the URLs of published content;
  • the identifiers of messages published by the bot;
  • publishing dates and times;
  • limited technical logs;
  • aggregated statistics on reach and clicks;
  • recurring publishing rules set by authorised administrators (title, content, frequency, time — with no personal data about members).

3. Data not collected by default

By default, Le Recul Bot does not collect:

  • the content of the server's conversations;
  • users' private messages;
  • the email addresses of Discord members;
  • users' real names;
  • data intended for advertising targeting;
  • data that would allow an individual reading or clicking profile to be built.

The bot is not there to monitor a server's members.

4. Statistics

Le Recul Bot may produce aggregated statistics to understand how Le Recul's content travels.

Those statistics may include:

  • the number of posts sent;
  • the number of configured servers or channels;
  • the number of messages published;
  • the number of aggregated clicks on certain links.

Clicks are counted in aggregate. The aim is to measure overall interest in the content, not to identify the people who click.

The bot does not guarantee a reliable measure of how many times a Discord message was actually seen.

5. Purposes of processing

The data processed is used to:

  • run the bot;
  • publish content to the right channel;
  • avoid duplicates;
  • manage each server's configuration;
  • display the right previews;
  • produce aggregated statistics;
  • diagnose technical errors;
  • keep the service secure.

6. Legal basis

Processing rests mainly on:

  • Le Recul's legitimate interest in keeping its service running, secure and measurable in aggregate;
  • performance of the service requested by the server administrator who installed and configured the bot;
  • compliance with legal obligations where a situation requires it.

7. Retention periods

Data is kept only for as long as its purpose requires.

As a guide:

  • a server's configuration is kept for as long as the bot is installed or used on that server;
  • the technical history of publications may be kept for as long as it is needed to avoid duplicates;
  • aggregated statistics may be kept for up to 25 months;
  • technical logs are kept for a limited period, in principle up to 12 months at most;
  • after the bot is removed, configuration data may be deleted or anonymised within a reasonable time, unless a technical need, security, a dispute or a legal obligation requires otherwise.

These periods may be adjusted where the security of the service, a legitimate request or a legal obligation requires it.

8. Who receives the data

Data may only be accessed by the people or services that need it.

That may include:

  • the Le Recul team;
  • the technical providers needed to host or run the bot;
  • Discord, as the platform the bot runs on;
  • the competent authorities where a legal obligation requires it.

Data is not sold.

9. Hosting and security

The bot is hosted on technical infrastructure used by Le Recul or its providers.

Reasonable measures are in place to limit access to data, protect server configurations and avoid exposing technical secrets.

Discord tokens, API keys and configuration secrets must never be shown publicly.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you can exercise your rights where the applicable conditions are met:

  • right of access;
  • right to rectification;
  • right to erasure;
  • right to object;
  • right to restriction of processing;
  • right to portability, where that right applies.

To exercise these rights, use the contact page or write to: webmaster@lerecul.com

You will receive a reply within the time limits set by the applicable regulation.

You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.

11. Removing the bot

An administrator can remove Le Recul Bot from their server from Discord.

Removing the bot may lead to the deletion or anonymisation of the configuration data tied to that server, except for data needed for security, to evidence abuse, for technical diagnosis or to comply with a legal obligation.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may change to reflect changes to the bot, the website, Discord or the applicable regulation.

The version that applies is the one published on this page.
