Le Recul is published from France and these terms are governed by French law. This page is an English translation provided for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version is the one that applies.

These terms govern the use of Le Recul Bot, the official Discord bot attached to the lerecul.com website.

By inviting or using Le Recul Bot on a Discord server, the server administrator accepts these terms.

1. What the bot is for

Le Recul Bot exists to automatically publish content from lerecul.com to Discord.

It may publish, among other things:

• articles;
• deep dives;
• tested promises;
• AI rankings;
• editorial content related to the Le Recul website.

2. Behaviour depending on the server

On the official Le Recul server, the bot may publish full content to the matching channels, depending on the content type or section.

On external or partner servers, the bot publishes previews only: image, title, short summary and a link to the full article on lerecul.com.

This behaviour may change, in particular to improve formatting, categories, configuration commands or aggregated statistics.

3. Installing on a Discord server

The bot must be installed by someone holding the necessary rights on the Discord server concerned.

The server administrator remains responsible for:

• the authorisation given to the bot;
• the choice of publishing channel;
• the permissions granted;
• removing the bot if it is no longer wanted.

Le Recul Bot must not be installed on a server without legitimate authorisation from its administration.

4. Permissions required

On a partner server, Le Recul Bot does not need the Administrator permission.

The recommended permissions are:

• View channels;
• Send messages;
• Embed links;
• Attach files;
• Read message history;
• Use application commands.

Some permissions may be optional depending on the configuration:

• Create public threads;
• Send messages in threads;
• Manage messages, only for advanced clean-up or moderation features;
• Manage channels, only in an advanced configuration or on the official Le Recul server.

The bot should only be granted the permissions its actual use requires.

5. Acceptable use

Le Recul Bot must be used to publish Le Recul content in a normal, readable way that respects Discord's rules.

The bot must not be used to:

• spam a server;
• work around a server's rules;
• harass users;
• impersonate Le Recul;
• alter the meaning of published content;
• automate misleading or abusive publishing;
• break Discord's rules or applicable law.

6. Published content

Content published by Le Recul Bot links back to lerecul.com.

Le Recul's articles, analyses, rankings, texts, images, editorial structures and graphic elements are protected by copyright, unless stated otherwise.

On external servers, the bot publishes only previews meant to point to the full content.

Any substantial reproduction of Le Recul content outside the bot's normal operation requires prior authorisation.

7. Aggregated statistics

The bot may let Le Recul track aggregated statistics about how its content is distributed, for example:

• number of posts sent;
• configured servers or channels;
• messages published;
• aggregated clicks on links.

These statistics are not intended to individually identify the people who read or click.

The bot does not guarantee a reliable count of actual views on Discord.

8. Service availability

Le Recul Bot is provided with no guarantee of permanent availability.

The service may be interrupted, suspended, slowed down or changed for technical reasons, maintenance, security, changes to the website or how Discord operates.

Le Recul does not guarantee that every piece of content will be published instantly, nor that the bot will run without interruption.

9. Suspension or withdrawal

Le Recul may suspend or limit access to the bot in the event of:

• abusive use;
• a technical problem;
• a security risk;
• a breach of these terms;
• use contrary to Discord's rules;
• a need related to the operation of the website or the bot.

A server administrator can remove the bot from their server at any time from Discord's settings.

10. Personal data

Running the bot involves processing certain strictly necessary technical data: server identifiers, channel identifiers, configuration preferences, messages published by the bot, content already distributed and limited technical logs.

11. Liability

Le Recul Bot is an editorial distribution tool.

The server administrator remains responsible for the bot's configuration on their server, the permissions granted and compliance with the server's internal rules.

Le Recul cannot be held liable for a bot misconfigured by an external administrator, for abusive use on a third-party server, or for a temporary outage caused by Discord, by hosting or by technical maintenance.

12. Relationship with Discord

Le Recul Bot runs on the Discord platform but is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Discord.

Use of Discord remains subject to Discord's own terms and policies.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms may be changed to reflect changes to the bot, the website, Discord's rules or the applicable legal framework.

The version that applies is the one published on this page.
