Le Recul Discord

The Le Recul Discord is the community space attached to lerecul.com: AI news, analysis, tested promises, AI rankings and level-headed discussion about technology. Note that the server is French-speaking.

The server speaks French

Everything on the Le Recul Discord happens in French: channel names, discussions and bot messages. The server is open to everyone, but you will get little out of it without some French. The website, the newsletter and the bot's previews are what we translate; a live community is not something you can translate.

The official server

The official Le Recul server lets you follow the site's publications, find content by section and discuss the topics covered: artificial intelligence, tools, models, real-world uses, limits, marketing promises and actual effects.

When automatic publishing is switched on, site content can be posted to the matching channels: AI news, deep dives, tested promises, AI ranking or any other section the server is organised around.

Le Recul Bot

Le Recul Bot is the official publishing bot for Le Recul. It automates posting new lerecul.com content to Discord.

On the official Le Recul server, the bot can post full content to the right channels, depending on its type or section.

On partner or external servers, the bot posts a preview only: image, title, short summary and a link to the full article on lerecul.com.

The bot is built to avoid duplicates, respect each server's configuration and post only to the channels it was told to use.

Permissions required

On a partner server, Le Recul Bot does not need the Administrator permission.

The permissions it asks for are kept to the strict minimum:

  • View channels — reach the channel set up for publishing.
  • Send messages — post content previews.
  • Embed links — display rich embeds (image, title, summary).
  • Attach files — post an image or associated visual.
  • Read message history — avoid posting the same content twice.
  • Use application commands — reach the slash commands used for setup.

The bot does not ask for: Administrator, Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Manage Messages, Manage Webhooks, or any moderation permission.

For simply posting previews to a chosen channel, those six permissions are enough.

What the bot does

Le Recul Bot can:

  • post new content from lerecul.com;
  • display an image, a title, a summary and a link;
  • avoid posting the same content several times;
  • use a different configuration on each server;
  • post full content on the official Le Recul server;
  • post previews only on partner servers;
  • give Le Recul aggregated statistics on reach and clicks.

What the bot does not do

Le Recul Bot does not read a server's conversations at scale.

It does not read private messages.

It does not sell data.

It does not do advertising targeting.

It does not post to a channel that has not been configured.

It does not ask for the Administrator permission just to post previews.

It does not override the rules of the server it is installed on.

Data and statistics

The bot only uses the data it needs to work: the configured server, the publishing channel, publishing preferences, posted messages and content already sent.

Statistics are used in aggregate: number of posts, configured servers, messages published and clicks on links. The bot is not designed to identify the people who read or click.
